Connections 2007: Harvesting Talent
In 1991, NOVA—the City of Sunnyvale’s Department of Employment Development—inaugurated a celebration designed to recognize deserving individuals for their outstanding achievements relative to furthering themselves and their career objectives. This event has continued annually since that time and this year’s event is shaping up to be no less moving than the one held in the De Anza College cafeteria 16 years ago.
The NOVA Workforce Board, NOVA’s advisory group, sponsors this well-attended event on behalf of the CONNECT! collaborative of regional employment-related organizations. While the event has grown to recognize individuals from among these 35 partner organizations, NOVA and the City of Sunnyvale continue to play significant roles in the event.
Scott McGrew, host and producer of NBC11’s popular TechNow program, will return to emcee for his second year, and Sunnyvale Mayor Otto Lee will assist in the presentation of awards.
Ten individuals will be honored at the event with Alumni Awards in recognition of their noteworthy efforts to overcome significant challenges in pursuit of their career goals. Of these ten, three had participated in various NOVA programs and two—an inspirational mother-daughter pair—were successful graduates of Sunnyvale–Cupertino Adult & Community Education’s Certified Nurse Assistant program.
Awards will also be presented to a number of organizations and individuals for their exemplary contributions to the efforts of the CONNECT! collaborative. These Community Partner Award recipients include the Bill Wilson Center, Manpower Staffing, and Mastermind Educational Services, and the regional “Solar Center of Excellence,” known as SolarTech. Karen Davis, the City of Sunnyvale’s recently retired economic development manager, will also receive special recognition for her long-time support of the regional workforce development system.
The public is welcome to attend this luncheon event, scheduled for Wednesday, October 10, at the Hyatt Regency, Santa Clara.
